Wardens News
Greetings from Wardens and Vestry
“Doing all the Good we Can”
On behalf of the wardens and vestry, we welcome you to the Parish of St. John the Evangelist, through the medium of this web site.
In providing leadership and direction for our parish, we are guided by some basic tenets or principles. As a parish we strive:
-
to be imitators of God ….and live a life of love (Ephesians 5:1).
-
to worship God with thankful and cheerful hearts.
-
To love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honour (Romans 12:10).
-
To ensure our lights are on and our doors are open to all who come to our community seeking warmth and friendship.
-
To remember that faith is about doing good; we are as we act, not just how we believe.
At the Parish of St. John the Evangelist, we have made a covenant in Ministry to God between our Bishop and our Rector, vestry and laity to do all the good we can in the following key areas:
-
Worship As a church, we believe that human lives are strengthened and transformed when we gather as the Body of Christ to feed on His word and sacrament. It is at worship (and Sunday School) that we and our children and grandchildren gather strength and courage to participate in Christ’s great commission in our wider world.
-
Christian Education As a church, we are committed to lead and live as students of the Gospel, modeling our lives for others, managing and offering Christian education to all age groups within the parish.
-
Pastoral Care As a church, we commit to a program to regularly visit the sick and shut-ins, as well as other parishioners at the time of death and crisis; to provide sacramental ministry to the sick and shut-ins, to visit parishioners on a regular basis.
-
Outreach and Social Justice As Christians, we affirm that we have an obligation (through programs like PWRDF, Food banks, etc) to love our neighbours as ourselves no matter where in the world those neighbours may be. We commit to educating our parishioners about the biblical basis for such ministry.
-
Evangelism and Hospitality As a church, we affirm the necessity to reach out to others with the Good News of Jesus Christ and to bring the wandering back to the fold.
-
Administration and Management As a vestry, we commit to direct to the day to day operations of the parish, to provide support to the rector and church leaders to ensure that as a parish we meet our financial obligations and intervene appropriately when this is not happening. We pledge to be good stewards of our parish property.
-
Clergy Wellness We affirm our support and commitment to our rector, deacon and the leaders/members of all parish groups in their work among us so that they never feel that they are on their own and become victims of burnout and stress.
-
Communication We pledge to promote effective discussion and open debate, meaningful two-way communication in our parish.
